Medical Eye Bank of West Virginia

Headquarters in Charleston, West Virginia

History

MEBWV was founded in 1972 with donations provided by the Lions Clubs of West Virginia and a grant from the Eye Physicians of Charleston Area Medical Center. During the first year of operation, the Eye Bank procured 40 donor eyes.

Over the past five decades, the Eye Bank has helped restore sight to more than 15,000 people who were once blind. The Eye Bank is a public, non-profit organization that supplies human eye tissue for surgery, research, and training.
