Our Story
Since 1998, Vision Share has been guided by a simple principle: when eye banks pool resources, we can place more tissue, reduce inefficiencies, and better serve surgeons and patients, without compromising standards or autonomy.
Pooling resources allows Vision Share members the opportunity to ensure that donor tissue reaches the patients who need it, when and where it’s needed most.
Today, our network supports transplant and research programs in more than 30 countries and has facilitated the placement of over 141,000 corneas worldwide. This scale is made possible by trusted partnerships with leading EBAA-accredited eye banks committed to collaboration and excellence.
Each gift we steward helps fulfill our mission: providing exceptional service and supporting global sight restoration.

What our surgeons are saying
PARTNERSHIP
In 2016 at the American Academy of Ophthalmology conference in Chicago, I visited the Vision Share stand. This was probably the moment that changed what I’m doing in terms of cornea transplants. This opened access to quality cornea tissue for more than 8 countries in Africa, starting with Rwanda. Because we were a network of hospitals with the same ownership. This partnership changed many lives in Africa. I think between 400 to 500 people have benefited from this encounter since 2016.
It allowed me for example to give a good cornea to a young boy who was 8 years old. He had Acute Hydrops. After starting to work with Vision Share, we could order, get a cornea and get the transplant done within seven days. This was not possible until I met Vision Share.

COLLABORATION
Corneal blindness is a growing public health concern in developing countries like Morocco. Keratoconus, a condition primarily affecting young people, accounts for 50% of corneal transplant cases in Morocco. Its impact on patients and their families is profound, disrupting education, careers, and mental well-being.
Corneal transplantation, made possible by tissue donation, has advanced significantly in Morocco, particularly through the partnership between Vision Share and Cheikh Zaid Hospital in Rabat. This collaboration has enabled over 1,000 patients to access life-changing surgeries.
We thank Vision Share and all those involved in eye banking in the U.S., whose dedication makes these life-transforming transplants possible.
