Corneal Transplant Tissue and Processing Options
Vision Share offers a variety of tissue processing options to meet your transplant and research needs. Our eye bank network is EBAA accredited and FDA-registered. Listed below are our core tissue offerings. If you have questions or don’t see what you’re looking for, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

PKP
PKP (Penetrating Keratoplasty) processing prepares full-thickness corneal grafts for transplant, replacing all layers of damaged corneal tissue. This comprehensive procedure is ideal for advanced corneal disease.
Cornea
– No markings

ALK
ALK (Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty) processing prepares partial-thickness corneal grafts, focusing on the outer layers for patients with anterior corneal disease. This precise procedure preserves the patient’s endothelium, reducing rejection risk and promoting faster recovery. This is a less invasive transplant option.
ALK
– Processed by our Eye Banks
Tissue thickness options
– Customized thickness based on surgeons request.

DSAEK
DSAEK (Descemet Stripping Automated Endothelial Keratoplasty) processing involves preparing corneal tissue by isolating and thinning the Descemet membrane with a portion of the stroma for transplant. This procedure enhances graft stability and healing, with lower rejection risks and faster visual recovery.
Marking options
– Markings by request.
Standard preparation
– F stamp
– S stamp
– Epithelium centration dot
– Stromal bed dots
Tissue thickness options
– Standard 90-120µm
– Ultrathin 40-90µm
– Custom range

DMEK
DMEK (Descemet Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty) processing involves the careful preparation of corneal tissue for a transplant, focusing on isolating the thin Descemet membrane and endothelial layer. This delicate process minimizes graft thickness, promoting faster healing and reducing rejection rates.
Punched to size
– I-II, S or F marking
– 7.0, 7.25, 7.5, 7.75, 8.0, 8.25 or 8.5mm.
Standard preparation
– 9.5mm diameter of Descemets membrane peeled.
– Peripheral hinge
– S or F marking

Preloaded DMEK
Corneal tissue for DMEK is prepared according to your specifications and available in a Micro Jones Tube or Modified Jones Tube. The preloaded device securely contains donor tissue, minimizing handling, reducing preparation time, and lowering the risk of contamination or tissue damage.
Graft sizes
– 7.0, 7.25, 7.5, 7.75, 8.0, 8.25 or 8.5mm.
Markings
– I-II, S or F marking
Preloaded Devices
– Micro Jones Tube
– Modified Jones Tube
