Mission and Core Values
Sierra Donor Services Eye Bank’s (SDSEB) mission is to “save and improve lives.” They do this by fostering an environment where selfless professionals are committed to life-changing work. By supporting a local focus on donors, donor families, and the lives of those they impact, being a stable community member and putting patients first, they can maximize the Gift of Sight.
History and Global Reach
Sierra Donor Services Eye Bank (SDSEB) is a nonprofit donor network facilitating the gift of sight in the states of California, New Mexico, Nevada, and Tennessee. SDSEB is part of the DCI Donor Services, Inc. family of organ and tissue procurement organizations.
SDSEB has been providing the gift of sight for 50 years. Originating from local Lions Clubs that served their regions, their nonprofit agency works with physician partners in the United States and around the world to fight treatable and preventable blindness by providing corneal tissue for transplantation. SDSEB believes that every person in need deserves the gift of sight. In 2024, SDSEB distributed corneal tissue in over 30 countries and collaborated with physicians to deliver life-changing ophthalmic care to bring patients a better quality of life.
SDSEB is also involved in training initiatives to expand eye banking in developing countries. They have hosted physicians, ophthalmic nurses, and eye bank technicians from various countries in Central and South America to expand knowledge, safety, and sustainability of eye banking internationally.
Humanitarian Efforts
SDSEB continues to make a profound difference by restoring sight to patients in need, both domestically and internationally, while upholding the highest standards of safety and quality control. Their humanitarian efforts have been significant, supporting missions in regions such as the Caribbean, South America, Central America, Africa, and Asia. Since the early 2000s, they have provided corneal tissue to over 10,000 patients internationally.
